The directory is open

Ten thousand independent breweries across forty two countries, seeded and waiting to be claimed. Find yours and take it over.

BREWNION starts with a list. 7,361 independent breweries and 2,781 brewpubs across 47 countries, every one of them already on the site, none of them yet run by the people who brew the beer.

Why we filled it in ourselves

An empty directory asks brewers to do the work of building someone else's product. So we did the first part. Every brewery we could find is already listed with its name, its country and, where we had it, its town and its website. The entry exists whether or not the brewery has ever heard of us.

That also means the list is imperfect in public. Some entries have no town. Some names are spelled the way a stranger typed them into a map years ago. A few breweries have closed and nobody told the internet. All of that gets fixed the moment the brewery takes the entry over, which is rather the point.

Where the data came from

Three sources, in this order. OpenStreetMap, which knows where things are but not always what they are. Wikidata, which knows the older and larger breweries and carries their official logos under a free licence. And curated lists put together by people who actually follow their local scene, which is where most of the small breweries came from, because the small ones are on nobody's map.

The first two are open data and are credited at the bottom of every page. The third is the reason the directory is worth reading, and it is the part that will keep growing country by country.

What an unclaimed entry is

A name, a place, sometimes a logo, and a button that says the brewery can take it. Nothing more. There is no beer list, no story, no photographs, because we are not going to invent those on a brewery's behalf.

Claiming is free. What happens after is up to the brewery: beers, taproom hours, events, links to the webshop, a story worth reading. The page is theirs and it stops being a stub the day they want it to.
